DAYLIGHT
LIFE’S PROGRESSIONS IN THE SCHOOL OF LIFE
Life is eternal. Well, there was a beginning when the Divine Creator created you, and there can be an ending. Presently, this universe we live in is a living entity and may eventually let go of its present form to assume another in its continuing evolution. For the present, with our universe about 45% of the way into its life span, there is a lot of time. Your life need not be tied to that of the universe. In fact, it may already be tied to some higher realm than this universe.
In mechanical drawing class in high school, my teacher kept saying over and over at least once or twice every day, “If you do not have three views of an object, you do not know what it looks like.”
As a student of Dr. Thind, I learned his view of the universe. He liked to tell the story of the ten blind men who went to “see” an elephant and each got to touch a different part of the elephant. In trying to compare notes, they got into an argument as to what an elephant was really like. Spiritual development is like that. A lot of blind people are running around trying to tell other blind people what it is like.
In 1963 I met and became a student of another man from India, a teacher named Kirpal Singh. I had become a bit disillusioned with Dr. Thind because I had asked him some questions, and to the most important of these, he said he did not know the answer. I felt I knew the answer, and I had hoped he would tell me I was on the right track. I was not ready to know more than he did, and when he said he did not know, I decided I needed to find another teacher. Kirpal Singh also taught a version of Surat Shabda Yoga, similar to the system Dr. Thind taught, although there were some differences.
During a meditation in the fall of 1967, I realized I had three pictures. I had Dr. Thind’s picture, Kirpal Singh’s picture, and I had my own picture. I had three views of the spiritual life dimension, and knew more about it than either of them could with only one view. As time has gone by and I have had much more experience, I believe that to “see” the structure we live in, the great Universe of Universes, one needs at least twelve views. Although fifteen would probably be better. But here in this universe we live in, three views are good enough, as the world we live in is three-dimensional. It is important you learn to see …
Horizontal & Vertical
In a being’s spiritual development, there are essentially two fundamental directions, horizontal and vertical.
Horizontal … This refers to all spiritual interests and pursuits, which while providing interest and even entertainment, do not bring the aspirant any closer to his divine destiny. There is much to learn and one can spend lifetimes doing it, but horizontal progressions inevitably return the being to a new physical body and another life studying in the great School of Life. Eventually one figures out there must be more to life than these disciplines offer. If one looks up, you can see the way to go.
Vertical … A vertical progression leads you up into higher and higher frequencies of vibration. The music of being goes on and on, up the scale of sound. As the tone and the tones build, one experiences more and more conscious energy and eventually realizes that one is approaching the divine state of being under one’s own power. Thus, one can go there whenever one wishes to. Yes, it is possible to graduate from the School of Life.
A progression is a series of experiences that teach one something in relation to one’s spiritual or inner development. If one is not involved in managing sound current energy, then life’s progressions may come along only once in a lifetime. The lessons are important to learn, but more important they need to be comprehended, and that may take time. As one introduces more energy into the mind and it begins to run faster, progressions come along quicker and the learning process is accelerated. Progressions may come as often as once or twice a week and even faster as consciousness accelerates.
We tend to get caught up in the interplay and story line of the chakras. Each of these emotional centers has a series of lessons to teach and energy to send up to the mind emphasizing the importance of that particular chakra. In time one must learn to run the chakras. Either run them or they will run you right up against insanity. The chakras can provide a wealth of information in relation to your life and the lives of others. But … totally believing chakra information, or living totally in relation to them, is not a smart thing to do. Whatever you may think you are learning in life’s school, the school is first charged with teaching you to think for yourself. Thinking for yourself is an ongoing course in the School of Life …
